BARC FIELD DAY 2010 PICTURES

There are 71 BARC 2010 Pictures in this gallery. BARC Field Day 2010 was well attended. We had a visit from the local EM, as well as other officials and we all had a lot of fun. It was the largest turnout we have had for field day since I have been involved which I guess is several years at this point. Seems like yesterday when Alice and I, and several others all went together and passed our FCC exams. David, K5UZ was our field day chairperson and he deserves much credit for a job well done. Joe Swafford WA5NFC, hosted us at his place at the top of Brock Mountain, and as always he was an exceptional host to say the least. Just looking at his awards was worth the trip for me.

In addition to that, several of you put much work into the trailers, the portable towers and antennas as well as working tirelessly as operators and I thank you all for that. Alice made sure we had plenty to eat and I am always thankful for that. She was shown and told she was appreciated, and for those who made this possible, I thank you greatly as you know who you are.

Many of you provided time as well as your own personal resources and you know we could not do this without your help. I can't say enough about how proud I am of ALL of you. I think we not only had a good time, put on an excellent show, but we will also have a great score! I hope each of you enjoy the photo gallery. Thanks to those who took pictures and as I get more, they will be added to the gallery. 73 John Godfrey KE5NZY

Batesville Area Radio Clubs purchases New UHF antenna:

The Batesville Area Radio Club voted to purchase a UHF Andrews Decibel DB 420-B antenna for the amount of $200.00, which was a really good price as the retail value of the antenna is over $1500.00 new. The coverage this will give us on the UHF 444.750 repeater should be outstanding. I want to thank Ryan KE5YZP , for being willing to pass such a great deal on to the club.

Batesville Area Radio Clubs elects NEW PIO:

Cynthia Smith, KF5ANG was elected as the New Public Information Officer for the Batesville Area Radio Club. It will be her mission to promote information about our club that the general public might be interested in. I know she will do an outstanding job, and when you see her, or hear her on the air, be sure to welcome her as our new PIO.

BARC Field Day Planning and Eating Meeting was enjoyed by all:

On June 5th several members of the BARC and guest, met for a Field Day planning meeting at Kelly-Wyatt’s restaurant for breakfast, after that job was finished up, we enjoyed much good fellowship. We left from there and went to Jim’s house, KD5WSL, for the planning meeting and under the direction of our Field Day Chairman, David Norris K5UZ; we did make a pretty good list of things to do. After the meeting, we commenced to do the planned task, and did manage to finish up the task list for things scheduled for that day.

Field Day Operators Meeting

There will be a Field Day - Operators Meeting at the First Community Bank Community Room (the corner of St. Louis & Harrison Streets in Batesville) on Thursday June 17 @ 7:00 pm. This meeting is open to everyone, and would be especially good if you can attend if you are interested in operating with the club on Field Day. We hope to see you there.

The Batesville Area Radio Club 147.270 repeater is now streaming live over the internet:

This service is offered mainly for those who can’t for whatever reason, listen to the repeater over RF. If you don’t hear anything, it simply means that there is no traffic on the repeater at the present time. The best times to find activity is on Monday Night @ 8:00 pm CST when we have a  local net, and then  on Tuesday Night @ 8:00, when the repeater is linked into the CAUHF group, and the AR-LINK System for the "ASTEN AR Link System Net."

You might also consider visiting the clubs website http://barchams.org . You can get information about the club, and the audio from the 147.270 repeater is streaming live on each and every page, so you can listen as you surf the site. I would like to thank Ryan- KE5YZP and Daniel KE5QAU for helping me get this set up, and for their continued support and efforts to help advance the BARC and amateur radio in our area.

Field Day Planning and Eating Meeting!

On June 5th there will be a Field Day planning meeting at Kelly-Wyatt’s located at 1325 E Main St. in Batesville. If you would like to meet with the group to eat breakfast you should be there around 8:30, the planning meeting will being @ 9:00 at the restaurant. After the meeting David Norris- K5UZ had planned to leave from there and work further on preparing for Field Day.

BARC Annual Spring Picnic

The BARC Spring Picnic was a huge success as always. The last head count I took was 35, and folks came in after that, so I think we had close to 40. I enjoyed each and every minute and I think we all did.

The Fox hunt was a success as well. After Noel K5NES, gave us a good quick lesson in how to catch a fox, we had a slight delay due to technical difficulties, but we still pulled off a fox hunt for sure. After the fox had a good head start, we took off after "her". We descended on the great metropolis of Bethesda Arkansas with our Handy Talkies and our direction finding gear in toe, and tracked down the fox. KE5YZP, Ryan took the prize of having found the fox first, with Trocky K5CEU and crew coming in a very close second place.

Roy, KE5NOB was the master chef and he did a magnificent job with the food. Everyone brought side dishes and drinks and there was no lack of good food all around. KE5NOB was an excellent host and we owe him many thanks for his hospitality.

Some played horseshoes, some folks played in the pool, most of us just sit around and talked about the next subject that came up, and had a great time of fellowship all around.

I can't thank everyone enough for your participation, but thanks a billion anyway. I hope you enjoy the photo's. There are 31 pictures in the gallery below, just use the pointers to cycle through the photo gallery.
